One of the best ways to train your ears is to learn and be willing to make mistakes. This will teach you what your strengths are AND the parts of your playing that need improvement. Scales and chord progressions can provide the improvisational requirements you desire and strive for, IF you learn to, "play them outside the loop." MAKE SOME MISTAKES ON PURPOSE!
Repetitive, note-by-note or chord-by-chord practice does not do creativity any justice! Make mistakes and resolve them to see and hear what your ears find pleasure in. Not only will you acquire your own style, you might also impress your audience when you do perform!

Welcome to the discussions that will help your ears discover their own Consciousness. Through ear training practice, your ears will learn to communicate with you! I know that this "sounds" incredible and impossible! However, if you dedicate yourself to the work required, the Awareness your ears gain will change your life.
